Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, the committee resumed its study of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

Stanley King, Minda Suchan and Ghislain Collin made statements and answered questions.

At 12:43 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Ken Hardie moved, — That the committee and the Canadian Coast Guard dedicate two meetings to hear from the aquaculture industry the steps they will take to eliminate all harms to wild fish stocks of their operations;

that the committee present the findings of these hearings to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard to inform her decisions on the nature and scope of transitions the industry will make to achieve this goal; and

that the government issue a response to these findings.

Amendment

Mike Kelloway moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Coast Guard” the following: “on the West Coast”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Mike Kelloway and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the committee and the Canadian Coast Guard on the West Coast dedicate two meetings to hear from the aquaculture industry the steps they will take to eliminate all harms to wild fish stocks of their operations;

that the committee present the findings of these hearings to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard to inform her decisions on the nature and scope of transitions the industry will make to achieve this goal; and

that the government issue a response to these findings.

At 1:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
