The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

At 4:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:10 p.m., the sitting resumed.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study to examine the (i) impacts of Hurricane Fiona on fish harvesters, fisheries infrastructure, such as small craft harbours, and Canadian Coast Guard operations in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec, (ii) role the climate crisis is having on the severity of marine storms in these regions, (iii) need for climate-resilient coastal infrastructure; that the committee undertake to identify the most pressing immediate needs of harvesters and the Canadian Coast Guard and assess the government’s response to these needs; that the committee receive testimony in four meetings; that the committee conclude its study by sending a letter to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans to convey pressing immediate needs identified in witness testimony; and that, in its letter to the minister, the committee request, given the urgency of the situation, a timely written response.

At 5:05 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
