Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, February 13, 2023, the committee commenced consideration of Bill S-8, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, to make consequential amendments to other Acts and to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

The Minister made a statement and, with Brett Bush and Stephen Burridge, answered questions.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:55 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the studies of the security at the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the situation at the Russia-Ukraine border and implications for peace and security, the Chair be instructed to prepare a detailed budget for the preliminary proposal for the committee’s travel to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Poland and Ukraine in the summer and fall of 2023.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the situation at the Russia-Ukraine border and implications for peace and security, the Chair be instructed to prepare a detailed budget for the preliminary proposal for the committee’s travel to Ghana and Senegal in the summer and fall of 2023.

It was agreed, — That the members of the committee submit to the clerk all of their proposed amendments to Bill S-8, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, to make consequential amendments to other Acts and to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, no later than noon ET on Friday, May 12, 2023.

It was agreed, — That the committee commence clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-8, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, to make consequential amendments to other Acts and to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget of the subcommittee on International Human Rights in the amount of $ 1,250.00, for the study of the current Human Rights Situation in Nigeria, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed supplementary budget in the amount of $ 1,500.00, for the consideration of Bill C-281, An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act (Sergei Magnitsky Law), the Broadcasting Act and the Prohibiting Cluster Munitions Act, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 6,450.00, for the study of Bill S-8, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, to make consequential amendments to other Acts and to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, be adopted.

At 1:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
