Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, January 31, 2022, the committee resumed its study of challenges related to the recovery of the arts, culture, heritage, and sport sectors, which have been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Anthony Housefather moved, — That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the history of and current display of hate symbols and emblems such as the swastika and the Confederate flag in Canada and consider what actions Parliament may take to end or limit the display of such hate symbols and emblems; that the study should be at least one meeting; and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, that the motion be amended to read as follows:

That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee undertake a study on the history of and current display of hate symbols and emblems in Canada, and consider what actions Parliament may take to end or limit the display of such hate symbols and emblems, including legislation; that the study should be at least one meeting; and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to.

At 5:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
