It was agreed, — That the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Veterans Affairs officials be invited to appear before the committee on Monday, March 20, 2023, and that the first hour be dedicated to the study of the Subject Matter of Supplementary Estimates (C), 2022-23, and the second hour be dedicated to the study of the Main Estimates 2023-24.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study focused on learning more about the transition period that individuals leaving military service undergo into post-service life; that this includes examining how both Veterans Affairs Canada and Veteran-serving organizations are able to reach new Veterans to inform them of their options in relations to Veterans Affairs Canada benefits and services, employment and schooling opportunities and other supports like accessing necessary medical treatments, including but not limited to mobility devices and mental health services, so that the Veteran has the best chance of transitioning back into civilian life; and that the committee allocate a minimum of four meetings to hear witnesses for this study.

It was agreed, — That the committee undertake the following studies:

1. “Recognition of Persian Gulf Veterans”, for no less than one meeting; and that this study would hear from witnesses to examine ways in which the service of Persian Gulf Veterans could be better recognized by Veterans Affairs Canada;
2. “The National Monument to Canada’s Mission in Afghanistan”, for no less than one meeting; and that this study would hear from witnesses, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, on the progress of the planned monument;
3. “Assessing Veteran Injuries and Disabilities”, for no less than two meetings; and that this study would hear from witnesses to examine ways in which the Department of Veterans Affairs could improve their practices related to assessing Veterans’ injuries and disabilities; and

that the committee reports its findings back to the House.

It was agreed, — That the committee invite witnesses from Historica Canada to provide a one-hour informational session on the Memory Project.

It was agreed, — That the committee adopt the proposed calendar submitted by the analyst in collaboration with the clerk, and that the committee begins with the study of the experience of women Veterans and then undertake the study on transition to civilian life.

It was agreed, — That witness lists for the study of the experience of women Veterans be submitted to the clerk no later than Thursday, March 16, 2023.
