The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the real-world threats and public safety challenges posed by growing online hate groups (in particular white nationalism and supremacy) that have increased in size and in polarization, and how best to respond to it; including requirements for social media platforms to remove illegal, criminal content within 24 hours, how to best address misinformation before it leads to hatred and violence; that the committee report its findings to the House; and that the committee request a Government response to its report.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study on the management and control of Canada’s borders (opening and closure) and the government directives issued during the COVID-19 pandemic; that the committee invite officials from government departments and agencies, and others involved in the development of the public health plan and the management of the border control measures implemented since the start of the pandemic; and that the committee report its findings to the House on the most efficient measures to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure Canadian domestic security.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee undertake a study of the management of COVID-19 in prisons during the pandemic, including current practices; and that the committee report its findings to the House.

It was agreed, — That the committee invite the minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to appear on Monday, October 26, 2020 in relation to his mandate letter.
