Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-218, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sports betting).

Chris D. Lewis, William Ford, Jim Lawson and Christina Litz made statements and answered questions.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Murielle Thomassin, Stewart Groumoutis, Jamie Wiebe and Sue Leslie made statements and answered questions.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $2,650, for the study of Bill C-218, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sports betting), be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the committee begin consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2021, as well as the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2022 at the meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2021.

It was agreed, — That, for the meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 25, 2021, the first hour be devoted to the consideration of a draft report concerning the study on controlling or coercive conduct within intimate relationships, and that the second hour be devoted to the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-218.

On motion of Rhéal Éloi Fortin, it was agreed, — That the clerk inform each witness that the House Administration support team must conduct technical tests to check the connectivity and the equipment used to ensure the best possible sound quality; and that the Chair advise the committee, at the start of each meeting, of any witness who did not perform the required technical tests.

On motion of Rhéal Éloi Fortin, it was agreed, — That all documents submitted for committee business that do not come from a federal department or the office of a member of Parliament, or that have not been translated by the Translation Bureau, be sent for prior linguistic review by the Translation Bureau before being distributed to members.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the consideration of Bill C-218, the Canadian Football League Players’ Association be invited to appear.

At 1:08 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
