The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, due to a technical error that occurred during meeting no. 124 on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, which resulted in a loss of the audio recording required to prepare the Evidence, the speaking notes presented by Daniel-Robert Gooch and Glenn Priestley and the written brief submitted by Darren Buss be taken as read and included in the Evidence for that meeting and that the Clerk inform the witnesses of the Committee’s decision.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of assessing the impact of aircraft noise in the vicinity of major Canadian airports.

Murray Strom and Scott Wilson made statements and, with Samuel Elfassy, answered questions.

Motion

Joël Godin moved, — That the committee undertake a study on the impact of the federal carbon tax on the transportation industry as follows:

  • One meeting on the carbon tax’s impact on the aviation industry;
  • One meeting on the carbon tax’s impact on the rail industry;
  • One meeting on the carbon tax’s impact on the trucking industry;

and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Joël Godin, Matt Jeneroux, Ron Liepert — 3;

NAYS: Vance Badawey, David de Burgh Graham, Ken Hardie, Angelo Iacono, Pierre Nantel, Churence Rogers — 6.

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 28, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of challenges facing flight schools in Canada (M-177).

Robin Hadfield, Bernard Gervais and Judy Cameron made statements and answered questions.

Matt Jeneroux gave notice of the following motion:

That the committee undertake a study on the impact of the federal carbon tax related to the transportation industry as follows:

  • Two meetings on the carbon tax’s impact on air passengers;
  • Two meetings on the carbon tax’s impact on railway customers;
  • Two meetings on the carbon tax’s impact on trucking customers;

and that the Committee report its findings to the House.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

Vance Badawey gave notice of the following motion:

That the Official Opposition present to the Committee its plan to deal with transportation-related pollution costs.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
