The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 1:07 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Tyrone Benskin, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Nina Grewal, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and David Sweet.

 

Other Members present: Hon. Judy Sgro.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Miguel Bernal-Castillero, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Perseus Strategies: Jared Genser, Managing Director. As an individual: Wesley Martin, Colonel (retired), Military Police, United States Army.

 

David Sweet moved, — That the Subcommittee invite Paul Bhatti to appear before it to discuss the persecution of the Christian minority in Pakistan.

Debate arose thereon.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the situation in Camp Ashraf.
 

Jared Genser and Col (Retired) Wesley Martin, by videoconference from Bradford, Pennsylvania, made statements and answered questions.

 

The Subcommittee resumed consideration of the motion of David Sweet, — That the Subcommittee invite Paul Bhatti to appear before it to discuss the persecution of the Christian minority in Pakistan

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 2:09 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
