The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Blaine Calkins, Sean Casey, Bob Dechert, Robert Goguen, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: François Pilon for Pierre Jacob.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst. House of Commons: Justin Vaive, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Parole Board of Canada: Suzanne Brisebois, Director General, Policy and Operations. Correctional Service of Canada: Don Head, Commissioner. Department of Justice: John Giokas, Counsel, Criminal Law Policy Section.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, September 24, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-587, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (increasing parole ineligibility).
 

Don Head and Suzanne Brisebois made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Bob Dechert, it was agreed, — That the clause-by-clause study of Bill C-587, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (increasing parole ineligibility) be postponed to the call of the chair.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
