The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights met at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 268, The Valour Building, the Chair, Mike Wallace, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Blaine Calkins, Sean Casey, Bob Dechert, Ève Péclet, Kyle Seeback, Mike Wallace and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Daniel for Blaine Calkins, Hon. Laurie Hawn for Robert Goguen and François Pilon for Pierre Jacob.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Dominique Valiquet, Analyst.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, November 24, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-26, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act and the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, to enact the High Risk Child Sex Offender Database Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

Michael Spratt, Paul Calarco, Gaylene Schellenberg, Sue O'Sullivan and Sheldon Kennedy, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Françoise Boivin, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $8,800, for the study of Bill C-26, An Act to amend the Criminal Code, the Canada Evidence Act and the Sex Offender Information Registration Act, to enact the High Risk Child Sex Offender Database Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts, be adopted.
