The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Kevin Sorenson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Candice Bergen, Randall Garrison, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Russ Hiebert, Ryan Leef, Rick Norlock, LaVar Payne, John Rafferty, Jean Rousseau, Francis Scarpaleggia and Kevin Sorenson.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Rosane Doré Lefebvre.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tanya Dupuis, Analyst; Christine Morris, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee study the subject matter of clauses 264 to 268 of Bill C-45, A Second Act to Implement Certain Provisions of the Budget Tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and Other Measures; that the Committee hear from officials from the Canadian Border Services Agency in the first 45 minutes and from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in the second 45 minutes on Wednesday, November 7, 2012; that the Committee discuss recommendations and amendments on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, during the last 30 minutes of the meeting, after which the Committee will convey their recommendations, including any suggested amendments, in relation to the provisions considered by them, to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance not later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

 

It was agreed, — That, in regards to the study of Bill S-7, the Canada Evidence Act and Security of Information Act: the Committee hear witnesses beginning with the Minister of Justice on November 19, 2012; the Committee begin clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-7 no later than Monday, December 3, 2012, and, if the clause-by-clause consideration has not been completed by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, that the Chair put all and every question necessary to dispose of this stage of the Bill forthwith and successively, without further debate, and then the Chair be ordered to report the Bill back to the House at the next available opportunity; and that amendments to Bill S-7 be submitted to the Clerk in both official languages before noon on Friday, November 30, 2012, and that these amendments be distributed to members in both official languages before the end of the day.

 

At 3:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
