The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rick Dykstra, Mylène Freeman, Sadia Groguhé, Roxanne James, Kevin Lamoureux, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jinny Jogindera Sims, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, David Tilson and John Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; James Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Metro Toronto Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic: Avvy Yao-Yao Go, Clinic Director. Chinese Canadian National Council: Victor Wong, Executive Director; Alice Choy, National Director. As individuals: Elizabeth Long, Barrister and Solicitor, Long Mangalji LLP; Peter Rekai, Partner, REKAI LLP; Julie Taub, Immigration and Refugee Lawyer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the temporary resident visas for visitors.
 

Avvy Yao-Yao Go, Victor Wong and Alice Choy made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Elizabeth Long, Peter Rekai and Julie Taub made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:47 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $19,300.00, for the study of the temporary resident visas for visitors, be adopted.

 

At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
