The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don Davies, Rick Dykstra, Roxanne James, Matthew Kellway, Kevin Lamoureux, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, David Tilson and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Daniel for Ted Opitz, Hon. Mark Eyking for Kevin Lamoureux, Sadia Groguhé for Paulina Ayala and François Pilon for Rathika Sitsabaiesan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Claudette Deschênes, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations; Les Linklater, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, September 29, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the immigration application backlogs in light of the Action Plan for Faster Immigration.
 

Claudette Deschênes and Les Linklater made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the document presented by Don Davies, entitled “Backgrounder — Stakeholder Consultations on Immigration Levels and Mix”, located on the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, be taken into consideration for the study on Immigration Application Backlogs.

 

At 12:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:04 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
