    Good morning, everyone. I see a quorum.

     We can now proceed to the election of the chair of the Subcommittee on Neurological Disease. I am ready to receive motions to that effect.

[Translation]

    I must first inform the members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair.
    The clerk cannot receive any other types of motions, she cannot entertain points of order or participate in debate.

[English]

    I would like to nominate Joy Smith.
    It has been moved by Ms. Duncan that Mrs. Smith be elected chair of the Subcommittee on Neurological Disease.
     Are there any further motions? Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
    The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mrs. Smith duly elected chair of the subcommittee.
    An hon. member: I have a speech to read on behalf of Mrs. Smith.
    Some hon. members: Oh, oh!
    The Clerk: At the pleasure of the subcommittee, I will now proceed to the election of a vice-chair.
     I am now prepared to receive motions for the position of vice-chair.
    Mr. Cannan.
     I'd like to nominate Ms. Duncan.
    It has been moved by Mr. Cannan that Ms. Duncan be elected vice-chair of the subcommittee.

[Translation]

    Are there any further motions?
    Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Ms. Duncan duly elected vice-chair of the subcommittee.
    (Motion agreed to)

    The Clerk: I would now invite Ms. Duncan to take the chair.
     Everyone, how would you like to move forward on this? I think there's a consensus to wait until next time.

    As you say, next time we could have the proposal that we prepared last time brought before the subcommittee, with the new time structure, and then we could adjust it as a committee.

    I have one question for the clerk following Mr. Brown's comments.
    Do we need to proceed by way of motion to restart the discussions that took place at previous subcommittee meetings or can we, since the meetings were held in camera and no decisions were actually made, bring the working documents back to the table at the next meeting?

[English]

    The clerk has told me that because it is a new committee we will have to restart the discussions at our next meeting.
    Mr. Brown.
    At the next committee meeting, couldn't we just table all the documents that were tabled before?
    Apparently we can, but we're going to have to re-discuss what we want to do. We can retable the motions.
    One thing I'd like to ask is if it would be possible to set the date for the next meeting today, given the fact that we have a parliamentary constituency week coming up. If we don't meet next week, then we're going to be pushing this off again another few weeks, and we're already behind schedule.
    I think we should proceed with setting the dates. Can we work to agree to some for the next meeting?

    Since Ms. Smith is absent, perhaps we should leave it to the clerk to check with the chair as to her availability and then to inform the members.

[English]

    The clerk informs me that she will discuss this matter with the chair, that the date will be set when the chair is back, and that they'll send a notice of meeting as soon at it's set.
    This is a really stunning meeting. Do we have a motion to adjourn?
    An hon. member: So moved.
    The Vice-Chair (Ms. Kirsty Duncan): We're good. We're done. The meeting is adjourned.
