The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Cathy McLeod, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Ken Dryden for Joyce Murray and Carole Lavallée for Luc Malo.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the Committee meeting be devoted to its study of Health Canada's Authorization of the Broader Use of Caffeine as Food Additive in all Carbonated Drinks.

 

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, June 10, 2010, the Committee meeting be devoted to its study of the Potential Risks and Benefits of Nanotechnolgoy.

 

It was agreed, — That on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, the Committee meeting be devoted to its study on the Weatherill Report on the 2008 Listeriosis Outbreak.

 

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, June 17, 2010, the Committee consider the draft report related to its study on the Cancellation of the HIV Vaccine Manufacturing Facility under the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative.

 

It was agreed, — That on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, the Committee meeting be devoted to its study of Lessons Learned from the H1N1 Response.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of Elevated Rates of Tuberculosis Infection in the First Nations and Inuit Communities.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: The Way Forward: Addressing the Elevated Rates of Tuberculosis Infection in on Reserve First Nations and Inuit Communitites.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee may append to its report a supplementary/dissenting opinion from all parties provided that it is no more than 3 pages in length (font = 12; line spacing = 1.5) and that the dissenting or supplementary opinions be submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages, no later than Friday, May 28, 2010.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
