The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Michael Savage, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gord Brown, Ruby Dhalla, Jacques Gourde, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Michael Savage, Hon. Judy Sgro and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Chris Charlton for Tony Martin, Raymond Gravel for France Bonsant and Massimo Pacetti for Rodger Cuzner.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Colleen Beaumier, M.P., Brampton West. Old Age Benefits Forum of Canada: Balkar S. Bajwa, Principal; Kuldip Sahi, Member. Old Age Benefits Forum - Vancouver: Balwinder Singh Chahal, Secretary. Immigrant Seniors Advocacy Network: Samuel Olarewaju, Secretary; Kifleyesus Woldemichael, Member. As an individual: Raymond Micah, Principal, Raymond Micah & Associates.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $17,800.00 for the consideration of Bill C-362, An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (residency requirement), be adopted.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 28, 2007, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-362, An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (residency requirement).
 

Colleen Beaumier made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:00 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:06 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
