The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Patrick Brown, Ruby Dhalla, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Michael Savage and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for France Bonsant, Rodger Cuzner for Mario Silva, Yvon Godin for Tony Martin, Hon. Gurbax Malhi for Gary Merasty, Joe Preston for Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Robert Thibault for Ruby Dhalla and Mike Wallace for Lynne Yelich.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Lafrance, Committee Clerk; Joann Garbig, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada: Manuel Arango, Assistant Director, Government Relations. House of Commons: Johanne Deschamps, M.P., Laurentides—Labelle; Hon. Mark Eyking, P.C., M.P., Sydney—Victoria. Canadian Cancer Society: Kenneth Kyle, Director, Public Issues.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 8, 2006, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-269, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (improvement of the employment insurance system).
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, December 5, 2006, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-278, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (benefits for illness, injury or quarantine).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
