The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko, James Bezan, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

Acting Members present: Robert Bouchard for André Bellavance and Hon. Albina Guarnieri for Ken Boshcoff.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal ; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

Witnesses: Union des producteurs agricoles: Denis Bilodeau, Second Vice-President; Gilbert Lavoie, Economist, Research and Agricultural Policy Branch. Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Bob Friesen, President. Canadian Bankers Association: Bob Funk, Vice-president, Bank of Nova Scotia; Brian Little, Head of Agriculture and Agri-business, RBC Financial Group. Canadian Association of Agri-Retailers: Dave MacKay, Executive Director; Ian McNeill, President. National Farmers Union: Darrin Qualman, Director of Research; Stewart Wells, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Business Risk Management.

Bob Friesen, Denis Bilodeau, Gilbert Lavoie and Stuart Wells made statements and, with Darrin Qualman, answered questions.

At 4:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Ian McNeill and Brian Little made statements and, with Dave MacKay and Bob Funk, answered questions.

At 5:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
