The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Gerry Ritz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Jacques Gourde, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle and Hon. Robert Thibault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst. Parliamentary Information and Research Service: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Bob Friesen, President. Canadian Horticultural Council: Marcus Janzen, President. Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Gary Koivisto, Executive Director, Plant Products Directorate; Bashir Manji, Acting Director, Food of Plant Origin Division. Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association: Brenda Lammens, Vice-Chair; Len Troup, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on phytosanitary issues regarding Agriculture and Agri-Food International Trade.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on horticultural sector and access to business risk management programs.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

On motion of Robert Thibault, it was agreed, — That, the budget of the Committee in the amount of $33000 for the study on Canadian Grain Commission review be adopted.

 

At 1:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
