The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 306 West Block, the Chair, Anthony Rota, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Larry Bagnell, Betty Hinton, Gordon O'Connor, Anthony Rota and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

Acting Members present: Louis Plamondon for Gilles-A. Perron.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Col Claude Rochette, Director General, Compensation and Benefits; Cdr Frank Vandervoort, Director, Pay Policy and Development; Anne Gravelle, Director, Pension and Social Programs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and authorization by the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and other elements of the pay and benefits package.
 

Col Rochette made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:39 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion be invited to appear in relation to the study on the necessity to have an independent Ombudsman for Veterans and associated issues related to Gulf War Veterans, Wednesday Feb. 16, 2005.

 

It was agreed, — That the Minister be invited to appear on April 6, 2005.

 

At 4:52 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
