Meeting No. 24

Tuesday, February 11, 2003

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:34 p.m. this day, in the Nova Scotia AB Room, Casino Nova Scotia Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Vice-Chair, Jerry Pickard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Jerry Pickard.

Other Member present: Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: David Goetz, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre: Gerry Mills, Executive Director. From the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women: Linda Carvery, Council Member; Stella Lord, Policy and Research Officer. From the YMCA of Greater Halifax / Dartmouth: Barbara Miller, Senior Manager, Newcomers Centre. From the Canadian Federation of Students: Theresa Sabourin, Organizer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Settlement and Integration Programs (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, February 10, 2003, Meeting No. 20).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 2:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
