The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, Northern Development and Natural Resources met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Raymond Bonin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Raymond Bonin, Serge Cardin, David Chatters, Stan Dromisky, John Duncan, John Godfrey, Charles Hubbard, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Guy St-Julien and Maurice Vellacott.

Acting Members present: Rick Borotsik for Gary Schellenberger and Yolande Thibeault for Benoît Serré.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst ; Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Robert D. Nault, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: George R. M. Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2003-2004: Votes 1a, 5a, 15a, L20a, 30a and 40a under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT; Votes 1a, 10a, 15a and 20a under NATURAL RESOURCES referred to the Committee on Tuesday, September 23, 2003.

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Votes 1a, 10a, 15a and 20a under NATURAL RESOURCES.

George R. M. Anderson made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

By unanimous consent, the question was put on the Votes and the result was announced: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 4.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, Votes 1a, 10a, 15a and 20a under NATURAL RESOURCES carried.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1a, 10a, 15a and 20a under NATURAL RESOURCES to the House.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:05 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Robert D. Nault made a statement and, with Caroline Davis, answered questions.
