Meeting No. 3

Wednesday, May 2, 2001

The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Robert Lanctôt, Wendy Lill and Janko Peric.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Bill Young, researcher.

Witnesses: From the "Comité d'adaptation de la Main d'oeuvre pour personnes handicapées": Jérôme Di Giovanni, Executive Director. From the «Confédération des organismes provinciaux de personnes handicapées du Québec»: Chloe Seradoni. From the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work: Joan Westland, Executive Director. From the Carleton University: Roy Hanes, Professor - School of Social Work. From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Deborah Tunis, Director, Social Policy Development. From the Human Resources Development Canada: David A. MacDonald, Director-General, Skills and Learning. From the Industry Canada: Mary Frances Laughton, Chief, Assistive Devices Industry Office. From the Neil Squire Foundation: Gary Birch, Director, Neil Squire Foundation.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) Study of the matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society: Round table on employability, skills, learning and innovation.

Gary Birch, Jérôme Di Giovanni, Roy Hanes, Chloe Seradoni, and Joan Westland made statements and, with the other participants proceeded to a round table discussion.

At 5:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
