Meeting No. 10

Wednesday, November 7, 2001

The Sub-Committee on Children and Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:21 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: John Godfrey, Monique Guay and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Member(s) present: Betty Hinston for Carol Skelton.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Mackenzie, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the Statistics Canada: Doug Norris, Director General, Census and Demographic Statistics. From the Canadian Institute of Child Health: Kelli Dilworth, Project and Research Officer.  From Aboriginal Sport Circle: Rick Brant, Executive Director; Gina Doxtator, Program Manager.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (See Minutes of Proceedings of March 1, 2000 – Meeting No.06), the Sub-Committee proceeded to study the status of aboriginal children living on and off reserves and federal programs available to them.

Doug Norris and Kelli Dilworth made opening statements and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 4:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
