The Sub-Committee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Carolyn Bennett, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Wendy Lill, Mark Muise,.

Acting Members present: Michel Guimond for Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Paul Crête for Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral.

Witnesses: From the Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Lucie Lemieux-Brossard, Treasurer. From the Calgary Independent Living Centre: Rick Goodfellow, Executive Director. From the Canadian Association for Community Living: Don Gallant. From the Canadian Association of Independent Living Centres: Traci Walters, National Director. From the Canadian National Institute for the Blind: Angelo Nikias, National Director, Government Relations, International Liaison. From the Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Laurie Beachell, National Co-ordinator. From the Independent Living Resource Centre: Mary Reid, Executive Director. From the Institut Roeher Institute: Cam Crawford, Acting Executive Director. From the Department of Finance: Louis Lévesque, General Director, Tax Policy Branch. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) Study of the matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society: Support systems for Persons with Disabilities.

Laurie Beachell, Angelo Nikias, Michael Huck, Don Gallant and Lucie Lemieux-Brossard made opening statements and, with the other participants proceeded to a round table discussion.

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee proceeded to the 1999 Centennial Flame Award. Darrell Swain presented a Report on Marie Elizabeth Anne White.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
