Meeting No. 19

Tuesday, May 2, 2000

The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Reed Elley, Ovid Jackson, Réal Ménard, Bob Mills, Lynn Myers, Marcel Proulx, Paul Szabo, Greg Thompson.

Acting Member present: Libby Davies for Judy Wasylycia-Leis

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Tim Williams, Research Officers

Witnesses: From Health Canada: Murielle Brazeau, Director General, Strategies and Systems for Health Directorate; Louise A Plouffe, Manager, Population Health Directorate, Division of Aging and Seniors, Knowledge Development Section; Carl Lakaski, Senior Analyst, Mental Health, Strategies and Systems for Health Directorate, Health Systems Division, Health Systems Development Section, Louise Boily, Mental Health Senior Consultant, Population Health Directorate, Childhood and Youth Division, Child Youth and Family Health Section; Dr. Natacha Joubert, Researcher and Manager, Strategies and Systems for Health Directorate, Health Issues Division Wellbeing group - Mental Health Promotion Unit.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), and its order of Tuesday, April 14, 2000 (Meeting No. 17) the Committee commenced a study on Mental Health.

Murielle Brazeau made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
