Meeting No. 34

Tuesday, November 30, 1999

The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Ken Epp, Roger Gallaway, The Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.

Associate Member present: Carolyn Bennett.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean Soucy, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants: Peter F. Wilkinson, Director, Government Affairs; Elaine Sibson, FCA, Member, Government Affairs Committee. From the Retail Council of Canada: Peter Woolford, Senior Vice-President, Policy; Brian Rudderham, Controller, Wal-Mart Canada Inc.. In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultations. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Meeting No. 2).

Elaine Sibson, Peter Woolford, Martin Smith, Jennifer Tomas, Peter McGuire, Campbell Robertson, Russell Hiscock and Brian Murphy made statements and, with the other participants in the roundtable, answered questions.

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
