The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 9:30 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Roger Gallaway, Albina Guarnieri, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Lorne Nystrom, Gary Pillitteri, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.
Acting Members present: Paul Forseth for Richard Harris; Réal Ménard for Yvan Loubier.
Associate Members present: Carolyn Bennett.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Researcher.
Witnesses: From the Canadian Dental Association: Dr. John Diggens, President. From the Canadian Healthcare Association: Sharon Sholzberg-Gray, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Medical Association: Dr. Hugh E. Scully, President; Dr. Peter Vaughan, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Nurses Association: Dr. Mary Ellen Jeans, Executive Director. From the Canadian Pharmacists Association: Dr. Jeff W. Poston, Executive Director; Noëlle-Dominique Willems, Director, Government and Public Affairs. From the HEAL - Health Action Lobby: Dan Stapleton, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1, the Committee resumed its Pre-Budget Consultations. (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, November 2, 1999, Meeting No. 2).
John Diggens, Sharon Sholzberg-Gray, Hugh Scully, Mary Ellen Jeans, Jeff Poston and Dan Stapleton made statements and, with the other participants in the roundtable, answered questions.
At 11:18 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
