Meeting No. 10

Thursday, November 18, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Colleen Beaumier, The Hon. Diane Marleau, Bernard Patry, Yves Rocheleau, Bob Speller.

Acting Members present: Sarmite Bulte for Ted McWhinney; Lee Morrison for Deepak Obhrai; Keith Martin for Darrel Stinson.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Daniel Dupras, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Robert Keyes, Vice-President, International. From the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters Canada: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist; Alan Curleigh, Chair of the Alliance and Executive Vice-President, Klöckner Stadler Hurter Limited; William Neil, Director, Government Relations - International, Nortel Networks; David Hylton, Director, Special Projects, Kvaerner Chemetics; Buzz Grant, Vice-President, Finance, MDS AeroSupport Corporation. From Bombardier: Réjean Bourque, Director, Finance and Treasury; Richard Sloan, Vice-President and General Manager, Structured Finance. From the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada: Timothy Page, President. From the World Bank: Mats Karlsson, Vice-President, External Affairs, UN Relations at the World Bank; Edith R. Wilson, Chief, Industrialized Country Relations Division, External Relations Vice-Presidency.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and Article 25(3) of the Export Development Act, the Committee resumed its study of the Report on the Review of the Export Development Act.

Robert Keyes, Jayson Myers, Alan Curleigh, Richard Sloan and Timothy Page each made an opening statement and, with Réjean Bourque, David Hylton, Buzz Grant and William Neil, answered questions.

At 10:55 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 11:40 a.m., the meeting resumed.

Sarmite Bulte took the Chair.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with Mats Karlsson, Vice-President, External Affairs, UN Relations at the World Bank.

Mats Karlsson made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
