MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 3

 

Thursday, 12 February 1998

 

The Steering Committee on Agenda and procedure of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 12:00 o’clock p.m., this day, in room Room 307, West Block, the Acting Chair, Bernard Patry, presiding.

 

Members of the Steering Committee present: Claude Bachand, Gordon Earle and Gerald Keddy.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Scott for Derrek Konrad, Bernard Patry for Guy Saint-Julien.

 

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mary C. Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.

 

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2) the Steering Committee proceeded to discuss future business.

 

It was agreed , -That in the spirit of partnership and healing, the Committee study problems in fiscal and democratic accountability among Canada’s Aboriginal people, and report to the House before the summer recess.

 

It was agreed, -That the Department of Fisheries be called before the Committee to discuss conservation with regard to the aboriginal fishery.

 

At 12:45 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
