42nd Parliament, 1st Session
(December 3, 2015 - Present)

Women Human Rights Defenders

Last meeting: Tuesday, April 30, 2019

The Subcommittee on International Human Rights is studying gender-specific challenges faced by women human rights defenders. The Subcommittee will hear from women human rights defenders from all over the world, working in a variety of fields, with a wide range of personal experiences, including multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination.

The study will address the reasons why women human rights defenders are more likely to be targeted or excluded from public life; the forms of violence or harassment they are most likely to face; how women human rights defenders have mobilized to protect and support each other; how men and women human rights defenders can support one another in advancing their objectives; and what further initiatives can be taken.
