System of Shelters and Transition Houses Serving Women and Children Affected by Violence Against Women and Intimate Partner Violence

Last meeting: Wednesday, November 7, 2018

The House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women (the committee) invites the public to submit written briefs for the committee’s study on the network of shelters and transition houses serving women and children affected by violence against women and intimate partner violence.

The committee’s study will examine:

  • the current gap between the need for and available beds in shelters and transition houses;
  • current federal programs and funding in support of shelters and transition houses; and
  • possible solutions to address the gap between need and supply.

The committee requests that the written briefs submitted focus on the aforementioned topics and that the briefs include specific recommendations to the Government of Canada on how to improve access to shelters and transition houses that serve women and children affected by violence against women and intimate partner violence across the country.

The deadline for the committee to receive written briefs, in either official language, is Friday, November 16, 2018. Briefs should not exceed two pages in length (approximately 1,000 words). Please see the Guide for Submitting Briefs to House of Commons Committees for further information.
