Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • The impacts of greenhouse gas emissions are having increasingly serious negative effects on all aspects of Canadian society;
  • The increases in extreme weather events are already clearly demonstrating that Climate Change due to human production and use of fossil fuels is causing significant harms to our society and way of life;
  • The increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is already having significant impacts on the marine ecosystem and shellfish fisheries due to acidification of the ocean waters;
  • The increase in marine heatwaves is already having a significant impact on marine ecosystems and commercial fisheries that many Canadians depend upon;
  • The increase in extreme wildfire activity is threatening all Canadians in all provinces and territories in the country; and
  • That we must resist our desire for short-term self-interest and continuation of the status-quo and agree that we need to act now to protect our families and descendants for generations to come.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to fully support the planned increase to the Federal Carbon Tax in April of 2024 and to renew their commitment to current Federal Carbon Tax legislation for the good of all Canadians.
