  • Addiction to drugs and alcohol lead to lower quality of life, illness, death, destruction of the family unit, loss of employment and schooling, and homelessness;
  • The cost to obtain professional addictions counselling is not covered by provincial l healthcare plans or covered as a medical expense under Canadas income tax deductions; and
  • The government, provincial healthcare plans, and many insurance providers are not recognizing licensed addictions counsellors as healthcare or social service providers and individuals are losing access to quality care from these professionals due to costs and not getting coverage or deductions for medical expenses on theirtax returns.
