e-327 (Food supply)

E-petition
Initiated by Ken Billings from Ottawa, Ontario

Original language of petition: English

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • the Government of Canada's website states that (i) protecting the health and safety of Canadians is of the utmost priority for the Government of Canada, (ii) all food products imported into Canada must meet robust health and safety regulations to ensure maximum protection for Canadian consumers, (iii) the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) protects Canada’s right to mainain and implement measures to ensure food safety for consumers as well as to protect animal or plant life or health, (iv) food product imports will only be accepted if they meet Canada’s rigorous health and safety requirements, which have been fully protected, (v) nothing in any of Canada’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) exempts foreign investors from having to comply with Canadian laws or regulations, (vi) the TPP will not impair the ability of Canada or its partners to regulate or legislate in areas such as the environment, culture, safety, health and conservation;
  • experience shows that these statements by the Government are untrue, exemplified by rBGH-induced milk, which is forbidden to be imported into Canada, but which will be allowed back into this country under the TPP; and
  • rBGH-induced milk is unsafe for human consumption and claiming it to be safe is false, as rBGH administered to dairy cows generates much increased incidence of mastitis, pus in the milk, and a secondary hormone, IGF - 1, which is incriminated as causing cancer.
We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to protect the safety and sovereignty of Canada's food supply by rejecting the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement. .
