Petition to the Government of Canada
- There cannot be Indigenous peoples living in tents and inadequate housing throughout the cold Canadian winters and the pandemic on their own traditional lands;
- The government needs to act now to provide ample funding and resources to address the housing crisis, ensure these resources are sustainable and of adequate quality to meet housing standards, as well as to respect Indigenous sovereignty throughout this process by employing Indigenous peoples, including Indigenous-led investigation teams to oversee the government's actions to respect this fundamental human right;
- As Cindy Blackstock said, Indigenous children feel that they are not worth the government’s money and that their lives aren’t worth living because of the gross lack of funding that have led to the third world living conditions that are greatly impacting their daily lives and futures;
- The world, the United Nations, our children and the future generations are watching;
- The right thing to do for Indigenous peoples is for the government to fix the housing epidemic that is affecting their health, livelihoods and survival rates; and
- The government has the chance to change the course of history, or to be known in future history books as another government continuing genocide against Indigenous peoples.
