Q-7772 — May 28, 2021 — Mr. Soroka (Yellowhead) — With regard to the announcement made by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Natural Resources on Thursday, May 27, 2021, about energy efficient homes: (a) what were the total costs related to the announcement, broken down by line item; (b) what were the total costs related to the production of the video shown during the announcement; and (c) was Randy Spracklin or HGTV compensated in any way for participating or endorsing the announcement or program, and, if so, what are the details of such compensation, including the terms and amount of any such agreement?

Opposition Motions
May 28, 2021 — Mr. Chong (Wellington—Halton Hills) — That an order of the House do issue for the unredacted version of all documents produced by the Public Health Agency of Canada in response to the March 31, 2021, and May 10, 2021, orders of the Special Committee on Canada-China Relations, respecting the transfer of Ebola and Henipah viruses to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in March 2019, and the subsequent revocation of security clearances for, and termination of the employment of, Dr. Xiangguo Qiu and Dr. Keding Cheng, provided that:
(a) these documents shall be deposited with the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel, in both official languages, within 48 hours of the adoption of this order;
(b) the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel shall promptly thereafter notify the Speaker, who shall forthwith inform the House, whether he is satisfied the documents were produced as ordered;
(c) the Minister of Health shall be ordered to appear before the special committee, for at least three hours, at a televised meeting, to be held within two weeks of the adoption of this order, to discuss the documents and the matters referred to in them;
(d) the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel shall confidentially review the documents with a view to redacting information which, in his opinion, could reasonably be expected to compromise national security or reveal details of an ongoing criminal investigation, other than the existence of an investigation;
(e) the Speaker shall cause the documents, as redacted pursuant to paragraph (d), to be laid upon the table at the next earliest opportunity and, after being tabled, they shall stand referred to the special committee;
(f) the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel shall discuss with the special committee, at an in camera meeting, to be held within two weeks of the documents being tabled pursuant to paragraph (e), what information he redacted pursuant to paragraph (d); and
(g) the special committee may, after hearing from the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel pursuant to paragraph (f), decide to make public any of the information which was redacted, as well as, in lieu of making such information public, rely on such information for the purpose of making findings and recommendations in any subsequent report to the House, provided that, for the purpose of this paragraph, the documents deposited pursuant to paragraph (a) shall be deemed to have been referred to the special committee.

May 28, 2021 — Ms. Rempel Garner (Calgary Nose Hill) — That, given that,
(i) provinces have presented plans for permanent reopening tied to vaccination rates,
(ii) the travel, tourism, hospitality and agricultural sectors and Canadians with loved ones abroad need clarity and hope regarding benchmarks the federal government will use to lift border restrictions,
the House call upon the government to table within 10 days of this motion being adopted benchmarks and criteria for the safe lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions within areas of federal jurisdiction, including, but not limited to, the reopening of the land border with the United States, the hotel quarantine program, and quarantine upon entry into Canada.

May 28, 2021 — Mr. Chong (Wellington—Halton Hills) — That the House:
(a) recognize that Canadians of Chinese descent have historically made tremendous sacrifices for the benefit of Canada, and continue to make significant contributions to the Canadian society;
(b) recognize that any suggestion that criticism of China's government or the Chinese Communist Party constitutes anti-Asian racism only serves to further propaganda efforts of China's government; and
(c) recognize that it is imperative for the government to counter the threats directed by the Chinese Communist Party to Canada while also combatting anti-Asian racism.

M-88 — May 28, 2021 — Mr. Dalton (Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge) — That, in the opinion of the House, the lack of access to effective addiction recovery treatment has reached a crisis point in Canada, and accordingly, the government should develop and implement a federal framework for addiction recovery to ensure that Canadians suffering from addictions to harmful substances receive timely access to appropriate care and treatment, including, but not limited to (i) consulting with provinces, municipalities, and recovery providers to develop best practices, guidelines and long-term plans for addiction treatment and recovery, (ii) developing targeted strategies for specific populations, Indigenous peoples and at-risk youth, (iii) developing awareness programs for employers to recognize addiction and provide support for their employees, (iv) providing increased temporary financial supports to individuals undergoing recovery treatment and their families.
M-89 — May 28, 2021 — Mr. Saini (Kitchener Centre) — That:
(a) the House recognize that a significant contribution to Canada’s annual greenhouse gas emissions is caused by preventable food loss and waste; and
(b) in the opinion of the House, the government should develop a strategy to halve per capita food waste in Canada by 2030, in accordance with the United Nations sustainable development goal 12.3, within one year of the adoption of this motion.
