Voting Method

During Normal Election Conditions

In common areas

  • Available to residents, visitors, staff, BCEHS, and police.
  • Staffed directly by Elections BC (EBC).
  • Scheduled to take place during advance voting.
  • Must follow guidance in approved Safe Voting Places - COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plan.
  • Single-site directive does not apply to voting.
  • Consultation with Medical Health Officer required to determine appropriateness of voting in common areas during an outbreak.

Bedside

  • Voter assisted by small mobile team, staffed directly by EBC.
  • Scheduled to take place during advance voting.
  • Must follow guidance in approved Safe Voting Places - COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plan and any additional local guidance re: hand washing, use of PPE etc.
  • Single-site directive does not apply to voting.
  • Consultation with Medical Health Officer required to determine appropriateness of bedside voting during an outbreak.

By package

  • Not available.
  • Request process starts when election is called, packages must be returned by close of voting.
  • Voting package requests from residents are collected at the site.
  • Customized voting packages are delivered to the facility by courier; one for each voter who requested
  • Voters complete their voting packages and either return individually by mail or hold for bulk pick-up by DEO.
  • Consultation with Medical Health Officer required to identify best approach to voting by package during an outbreak.

Assisted telephone

  • Not available.
  • Voting occurs over a period of approximately two weeks, ending on Voting Day at 4 p.m.
  • Available to voters with a current registration record.
  • Voters call a toll-free number and are walked through the voting process by a specially- trained EBC team (over the phone).
  • Consultation with Medical Health Officer required to identify best approach to assisted telephone voting during an outbreak.

  • Small mobile teams offer bedside voting to patients who are not ambulatory.
  • Some areas of the hospital (e.g. ED, ICU) are not serviced by mobile teams.
  • Staffed directly by EBC.
  • Available only on Voting Day.
  • Must follow guidance in approved Safe Voting Places - COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plan and any additional local guidance re: hand washing, use of PPE etc.
  • Single-site directive does not apply to voting.
