March 11, 2010 — Resuming debate on the motion of Mr. Généreux (Montmagny—L'Islet—Kamouraska—Rivière-du-Loup), seconded by Mr. Armstrong (Cumberland—Colchester—Musquodoboit Valley), — That the following Address be presented to Her Excellency the Governor General of Canada:
To Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Chancellor and Principal Companion of the Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Chancellor and Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.
MAY IT PLEASE YOUR EXCELLENCY:
We, Her Majesty's most loyal and dutiful subjects, the House of Commons of Canada, in Parliament assembled, beg leave to offer our humble thanks to Your Excellency for the gracious Speech which Your Excellency has addressed to both Houses of Parliament;
And on the amendment of Mr. Ignatieff (Etobicoke—Lakeshore), seconded by Mr. Goodale (Wascana), — That the motion be amended by adding the following:
“and offers our humble wish that your Excellency is not burdened in future with frivolous requests for prorogation”;
And on the subamendment of Mr. Duceppe (Laurier—Sainte-Marie), seconded by Mr. Paquette (Joliette), — That the amendment be amended by adding the following after the word “prorogation”:
“that aim to prevent the opposition from asking legitimate questions on major issues such as Canada’s unacceptable position at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, the fate of Afghan detainees and the ineffective measures in the government’s economic action plan to help Quebec's economy weather this crisis”.
