STANDING COMMITTEE ON HEALTH TO STUDY LABELLING OF

GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD

 

Ottawa - Today, Bonnie Brown, Chair of the Standing Committee on Health announced that the Committee has adopted the proposal from the Ministers of Health, Agriculture, Industry and International Trade, to study the issue of labelling of genetically modified foods.

 

The Committee will be examining a range of issues related to labelling of genetically modified foods and will submit a report and recommendations on the best options for meeting consumers' information needs.

 

Canadians interested in appearing before the Committee are encouraged to contact the Committee Clerk after January 1, 2002.

 

The study will begin in the spring of 2002.
