M-636 French-speaking communities

That, in the opinion of the House: (a) access to French-language education, as provided by section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and interpreted by the courts, is central to the development and vitality of Canada’s francophone communities; (b) francophone communities are becoming more diverse owing to immigration, which plays a key role in ensuring the survival of these communities, which are facing unique demographic challenges; and (c) the government should work with the provinces and territories to ensure that francophone communities can fully benefit from the Protocol for Agreements for Minority-Language Education, including by taking into account developments in case law.
