In accordance with its Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 8, 2017, your Committee has considered Bill S-217, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (detention in custody), and agreed on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, to report the following: |
This bill will cause increased delay in the bail system; |
This bill will have the effect of making Canadians less safe by leading to more people released who should be in jail; and |
Therefore, pursuant to Standing Order 97.1, the Committee recommends that the House of Commons not proceed further with Bill S-217, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (detention in custody). |
A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meetings Nos. 50-53 and 55) is tabled. |
