Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.

We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party. I am ready to receive a motion for the chair.

Ms. Chow.

Ms. Olivia Chow (Trinity—Spadina, NDP):

I nominate Mr. Miller.

The Clerk:

It has been moved by Ms. Chow that Mr. Miller be elected chair of the committee.

Are there any further motions?

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?

Some hon. members: Agreed.

(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: I declare the motion carried, and Mr. Miller duly elected chair of the committee.

Before inviting Mr. Miller to take the chair, if the committee consents, I would like to proceed to the election of the vice-chairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the first vice-chair must be a member of the official opposition.

I am ready to receive motions for the position of first vice-chair.

Mr. Sullivan, you have the floor.

I nominate Ms. Chow.

Mr. Sullivan moves that Ms. Chow be elected first vice-chair of the committee.

I nominate Mr. McGuinty.

It has been moved by Mr. Watson that Mr. McGuinty be elected second vice-chair of the committee.

Thank you very much for your support, and congratulations to Ms. Chow and Mr. McGuinty. This is all that's on the orders for today, but I'm just going to suggest that since we've lost almost two weeks, we entertain a motion to do some other business. It would have to be unanimous consent.

Mr. Watson.

Mr. Jeff Watson:

With the consent of the committee, I'd like to add some other business. Before we do that though, Chair, the routine motions, would that be dealt with under other business as well?

The Chair:

Yes, but it would need consent. It's whatever you want to deal with.

Mr. Jeff Watson:

Sure.

The Chair:

Is there unanimous consent?

Ms. Olivia Chow:

For routine procedures?

The Chair:

Carry on.

Mr. Jeff Watson:

With respect to the routine orders, we do have to make an adjustment to the speaking order.

The Chair:

We have to go in camera.

Mr. Jeff Watson:

I move that we go in camera.
