Bill C-220, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (compassionate care leave)
In accordance with its Order of Reference of Wednesday, February 17, 2021, your committee has considered Bill C-220, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (compassionate care leave), and agreed on Thursday, February 25, 2021, to report it with the following amendments:

Title

That Bill C-220 be amended by replacing the long title on page 1 with the following:

“An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (bereavement leave)”

Clause 1

That Bill C-220, in Clause 1, be amended by replacing line 4 on page 1 to line 2 on page 2 with the following:

“1 Subsection 210(1) of the Canada Labour Code is replaced by the following:

210 (1) Every employee is entitled to and shall be granted, in the event of the death of a member of their immediate family or a family member in respect of whom the employee is, at the time of the death, on leave under section 206.3 or 206.4, a leave of absence from employment of up to 10 days that may be taken during the period that begins on the day on which the death occurs and ends six weeks after the latest of the days on which any funeral, burial or memorial service of the deceased person occurs.”

New Clause 2

That Bill C-220 be amended by adding after line 2 on page 2 the following:

“Coming into Force

2 This Act comes into force on the day that, in the third month after the month in which it receives royal assent, has the same calendar number as the day on which it receives royal assent or, if that third month has no day with that number, the last day of that third month.”

Your committee has ordered a reprint of Bill C-220, as amended, as a working copy for the use of the House of Commons at the report stage.
A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings (Meeting No. 19) is tabled.
