CANADIANS ARE INVITED TO SHARE THEIR PRIORITIES FOR THE 2020 FEDERAL BUDGET
Ottawa, June 13, 2019 -
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance is inviting Canadians to share their input concerning the next federal budget.
“The Committee is once again pleased to invite interested groups and individuals to submit proposals they view as essential for the next budget. The Committee’s pre-budget consultations process is a vital means by which Canadians can contribute to the development of federal budgetary policies,” said the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P. for Malpeque and Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.
This year, the Committee is interested in receiving written submissions on the following theme: Climate Emergency: The Required Transition to a Low Carbon Economy. The deadline for written submissions to the Committee is no later than Friday, 2 August 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (submissions received after this deadline will not be accepted).
Submissions should be no longer than 2,000 words and should be based on the following template. All text contained in the submission, including, but not limited to, graphs, quotes, images and footnotes, counts towards the submission’s 2,000 word limit. Only one submission per individual or organization will be accepted. Following translation, the submissions will be posted on the Committee’s website. Written briefs must be submitted through the Committee’s website.
Please note that the calling of a general election would result in the dissolution of Parliament and its committees, including the Standing Committee on Finance. A new Committee would be reconstituted by the House of Commons in the 1st Session of the 43rd Parliament. This Committee would be able to freely direct its own affairs. Therefore, the current Committee has adopted a motion inviting the Standing Committee on Finance in the 1st Session of the 43rd Parliament to consider the submissions received during the 2019 pre-budget consultation in the event that a federal election prevents the current Committee from completing its work.
More information about this year’s pre-budget consultations is available on the study’s website.
