The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Ed Komarnicki, Hoang Mai, David J. McGuinty, Larry Miller, Mike Sullivan, Jeff Watson, Wai Young and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Matthew Kellway for Isabelle Morin and Peggy Nash for Isabelle Morin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Jenelle Saskiw, Mayor of Marwayne, Alberta; Daniel Rubinstein, Manager, Policy and Research. Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs: Paul Boissonneault, President, Fire Chief, County of Brant Fire Department. Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: Tim McMillan, President and Chief Executive Officer. Freight Management Association of Canada: Robert Ballantyne, President. Canadian Transportation Agency: Nina Frid, Director General, Dispute Resolution Branch; Liz Barker, General Counsel, Legal Services Branch. Safe Rail Communities: Patricia Lai, Co-founder.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, March 31, 2015, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-52, An Act to amend the Canada Transportation Act and the Railway Safety Act.
 

Tim McMillan, by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, Jenelle Saskiw and Paul Boissonneault made statements and, with Daniel Rubenstein, answered questions.

 

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Patricia Lai, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, Robert Ballantyne, and Nina Frid made statements and, with Liz Barker, answered questions.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
