The Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 1:10 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Scott Reid, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Tyrone Benskin, Nina Grewal, Wayne Marston, Scott Reid, Gary Ralph Schellenberger and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Francis Scarpaleggia for Hon. Irwin Cotler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Erin Shaw, Analyst; Miguel Bernal-Castillero, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: William Browder, Chief Executive Officer, Hermitage Capital Management.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the Case of Sergei Magnitsky.
 

William Browder made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 2:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:06 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite Shari K. Bryan and Fatemeh Haghighatjoo to appear on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in conjonction with its study on Iran Accountability.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee invite Dr. Massouda Jalal and her associates to appear before the Subcommittee to discuss the issue of women’s rights in Afghanistan; and

That the meeting take place to coincide with Dr. Jalal’s travels to Canada.

 

At 2:10 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
