The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Pierre-Luc Dusseault, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Mark Adler, Jay Aspin, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Anne-Marie Day, Pierre-Luc Dusseault, Hon. Gordon O'Connor and Bernard Trottier.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Laurie Hawn for Jim Hillyer and Mathieu Ravignat for Pat Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: André Léonard, Analyst; Lindsay McGlashan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Chicago Open Data Institute: Paul Baker, Chief Executive Officer. McKinsey and Company: Michael Chui, Partner, McKinsey Global Institute.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(ii) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 13, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the government's open data practices.
 

Michael Chui, by videoconference from Miami, United State, and Paul Baker, by videoconference from Chicago, Illinois, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:47 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c)(ii) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 13, 2014, the Committee resumed its study of the government's open data practices.
 

It was agreed, — That the meeting of Thursday, May 15, 2014, be devoted to the study on the government’s open data practices and that the following organizations be invited to appear: Statistics Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Transport Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Health Canada and the Canadian Institute of Health Information, on the condition that 30 minutes be set aside at the end of the meeting to give instructions to analysts regarding the preparation of a draft report on this study.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding any previously made decisions regarding the study on the government’s open data practices, Mary Francoli of Carleton University be invited to appear on Tuesday, May 13, 2014.

 

At 10:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
