The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, the Hon. Peter Kent, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Tarik Brahmi, Hon. Peter Kent, Jean-François Larose, Rick Norlock, Ted Opitz and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Harold Albrecht for Cheryl Gallant, Mike Allen for Brian Storseth, Alexandre Boulerice for Élaine Michaud, David Christopherson for Jack Harris, Kirsty Duncan for Joyce Murray and Joe Preston for Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martin Auger, Analyst; Melissa Radford, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Marc Fortin, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science and Technology. Defence Research and Development Canada: LCol Roger Tremblay, Project Manager, Personnel Protection Research; Sanela Dursun, Director, Research Personnel and Family Support. As an individual: Harvey Moldofsky, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the care of ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members.
 

Marc Fortin made a statement and, with the LCol Roger Tremblay and Senela Dursun, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of John Williamson, it was agreed, — That the Chair of the Standing Committee of National Defence, on behalf of the Committee, direct the Clerk to call officials from the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces as witnesses to appear before the Committee to provide an update on Canada's contribution to humanitarian efforts in the Philippines, for one hour on December 10th, 2013.

At 10:35 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

On motion of James Bezan, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the Committee's consideration of Canada's contribution to humanitarian efforts in the Philippines, proceedings on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, be televised.

 

At 10:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
